Project History

The original Water Reclamation Facility was built and began operating in 1967. Various updates, improvements, and the creation of new buildings have progressed over the decades and now we are in the midst of a multi-year expansion.

Project History Timeline

  • 1967

    The original plant was built and began operating.
  • 1985

    Tertiary and sludge storage upgrades were completed.
  • 1991

    Grit and septage systems were improved.
  • 2003

    The South Activated Sludge Plant, Sludge Dewatering Building, and administration buildings were constructed.
  • 2013

    Algae control systems were improved
  • 2014

    Post-aeration and UV improvements were completed, and a filter arm was replaced.
  • 2016

    A Facility Master Plan was adopted.
  • 2019

    Electrical upgrades were completed.
  • 2021

    Boiler replacement completed.
  • 2022

    Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) Grant and loan from SRF awarded to City.
  • 2023

    MIPS Facility Project and fencing improvements completed.
  • 2024

    WRF Aeration Basin Clariflocculator completed.
  • 2025

    Construction of building structures for liquids and solids handling. Begin installation of underground piping. We are Here
  • 2026

    Aeration Basin, Secondary Clarifiers, Blower Building and Pump Building complete.
  • 2027

    Finalize Solid Handling facilities and make reliability improvements to existing plant. Startup / Commissioning of South Plant.
  • 2028

    Demolition of North Plant facilities and finalize civil / site work.
